Emphatic pronoun (Εμφατικός τύπος αντωνυμίας): a personal pronoun
form mainly used for emphasis and contrast purposes (see also clitic pronoun)
Εσένα (σε) ξέρει ο Σαχίνης αλλά εμένα όχι
Ending (Κατάληξη): the final part of an inflected word
ανθρώπ-ου, ανθρώπ-ων

Gender (Γένος): the grammatical categoryof nominal forms.Articles, alongwith thenominal
endings (case and number) mark the three genders: masculine, feminine and neuter
o Σαχίνης η Αγκάθα το σπίτι
Genitive case (Γενική πτώση): a case form of nominals. Nominals in the genitive
case modify the head noun, answer the question “τίνος / ποιανού” and usually indicate
possession. The genitive case can also denote origin, quality, time / place, quantity,
cause, purpose, content etc. (see also Case)
Το ποδήλατο του Γιάννη είναι αγωνιστικό
Head (Κεφαλή): the central element of a phrase which determines the properties of
the whole phrase: the noun is the head of the noun phrase; the verb is the head of the
verb phrase etc.
Noun phrase: Το καινούργιο ρομπότ του Σαχίνη
Verb phrase: Tου φτιάχνει καφέ κάθε πρωί
Imperative (Προστακτική): the verb form in the 2nd person either singular or
plural, which is mainly used to give orders
Πρόσεχε τα λόγια σου!
Imperfective aspect (Μη-συνοπτική άποψη): Imperfective verb forms
emphasize the internal structure of the event, i.e. whether the event takes place
habitually or continuously over a period of time (see also Aspect, Perfective aspect)
τρέχω / έτρεχα / θα τρέχω πέντε χιλιόμετρα για δυο ώρες χωρίς να σταματήσω / κάθε
μέρα
Impersonal verb (Απρόσωπο ρήμα): a verb which appears only in the third person
singular. The most common impersonal verbs are the weather verbs (βρέχει, χιονίζει…)
and the verb πρέπει
Βρέχει πολύ στο Λονδίνο
Πρέπει να βρέχει πολύ στο Λονδίνο
Indefinite article (Αόριστο άρθρο): the article ένας, μια, ένα. It denotes non-
specific entities with the noun it modifies
