C. Έκφραση ευχής, δυνατότητας / πιθανότητας, αναγκαιότητας
(How to express wish, possibility / probability, necessity)
Ευχή (wish)
A wish refering to the future is expressed by
the subjunctive verb forms (i.e. periphrastic
forms with να, ας). The particle να is often
reinforced with μακάρι, αχ και or even
longer expressions (such as Παναγία μου,
ας ήταν να …).
Wishes that are considered unlikely
to be fulfilled are expressed by either
imperfective (παρατατικός) or past perfect
(υπερσυντέλικος) when we refer to the
past. These structures are introduced by the
particles να, ας.
In both cases negation is expressed by μην.
Δυνατότητα / πιθανότητα
(Probability / possibility)
The particle θα which appears in the
periphrastic future forms expresses, among
other things, probability. The speaker
maintains that the event denoted by the
verb is probably true. In such cases θα
corresponds to or could be substituted by
μάλλον (δεν) / ίσως / μπορεί να.
Μακάρι να έρχεται πάντα στην ώρα της η
Αγκάθα!
Αχ και να έρθει σήμερα η Αγκάθα!
Ας έχει φτάσει τώρα στο αεροδρόμιο!
Να είχε θυμηθεί να κλείσει
εισιτήριο για το ταξίδι η
Αγκάθα!
Ας με έπαιρνε μαζί του
ο Σαχίνης στο ταξίδι!
Μακάρι να μη φύγει η Αγκάθα!
Ας μην αργούσε σήμερα τόσο πολύ ο Λάκης!
Θα έχετε δει -φαντάζομαι-
την Κλειώ να χορεύει
Θα έχει κάνει
μαθήματα χορού
