Structure of the book
The book is a continuation of «Ελληνικά γιατί όχι; 1» and follows a similar structure and
methodology.
It consists of two parts: the Student’s book and the Activity book.
It aims at students who are 10 years of age or older and already know how to read and
write.
The main theme of the book is the educational visit of a group of students to Greece. Every
unit is centered around a communicative situation (the preparation of the trip, food,
shopping) but elements of geography and history of the places the students visit (Athens,
Hydra, Spetses, Olympia, Delphi, Meteora and Thessalonica) are also presented. Thus,
language elements and culture are interwoven, providing the students with the opportu-
nity to approach the Greek history through life in contemporary Greece.
Τhe selected grammar structures are presented in the same way/ order as in the first book,
as far as the presentation of the noun and the verb is concerned. The language elements
are ordered in such a way that the basic structure of the language is presented (i.e. forma-
tion and function of the two word classes).
The active vocabulary of the book is listed with its English glosses / equivalents. Useful
information about the gender of nouns and adjectives, the formation of plural and the
availability of medio-passive voice for verbs is also included.
The activity workbook consolidates the language elements of the respective units. The
activities either identify or practice the formation and the use of the noun, adjective and
verb morphology within context.
English rubrics are used in the activity workbook in order to keep the aim of the exercise
clear for the students and eliminate any difficulties caused by unknown words.
Both forms of the demotic and the katharevousa are used in the book to familiarize stu-
dents with these particular varieties of Greek (Ιανουάριος / Γενάρης). The terminology
used is restricted to the necessary terms for the description of the Greek language (nomi-
native, accusative, noun, verb etc).
